As someone who spent most of her professional life living and working abroad, whether managing teams across Asia or leading a company in Europe or UK, I’ve witnessed the quiet power of diaspora communities. Beyond shared origins or language, these networks embody trust, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging. They don’t just preserve culture; they build bridges between people, ideas, and opportunities, fuelling both personal and collective growth.
Having seen how these relationships shape businesses, careers, open doors, and provide comfort in moments of uncertainty, I believe the strength of a diaspora lies in its willingness to lift each other up. It is a shared responsibility that thrives when people stay connected, exchange experiences, and support the next wave of professionals finding their footing abroad.

The Turkish Diaspora in the UK
Over the past five decades, the Turkish community in the United Kingdom has evolved into one of Europe’s most dynamic diasporas. From its early migration roots, it has grown into a highly educated, entrepreneurial, and globally connected population. Across the UK, Turkish academics teach and lead research at top universities, while many executives excel in senior roles across technology, finance, retail, and services. A new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators is building start-ups in tech, gaming, design, and consultancy, many scaling internationally. Meanwhile, Turkish artists, designers, and musicians continue to enrich Britain’s cultural scene and redefine perceptions of modern Turkey abroad.
This growing influence reflects not only personal success stories but also the collective strength of a confident Turkish diaspora, one that integrates fully into British society while proudly representing Turkey’s values and talent.
My Journey Within the UK Turkish Diaspora
Being part of this evolving diaspora in the UK has been both a privilege and a source of inspiration. Throughout my professional life, I have seen how collaboration and shared purpose can turn individual effort into collective progress. Over the past seven years, as an executive in the UK, I’ve met extraordinary Turkish professionals who not only thrive in their careers but also help others succeed. Together, we have connected talented individuals to global organisations, built partnerships between UK and Turkish companies, and supported Turkish start-ups expanding their reach. I’ve witnessed entrepreneurs who began with courage and limited resources grow into respected leaders in technology, finance, law, and design. One story that stands out is a young Turkish gaming founder who recently secured major U.S. investment, thanks to an introduction made years earlier. It reminded me how even a small act of connection can create ripples of opportunity that shape lives and elevate Turkey’s reputation abroad.
The Turkish diaspora in the UK has been strongly supported by the Turkish Embassy, DEİK, DTİK, trade chambers, and various NGOs whose efforts to connect entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals have been invaluable. Their initiatives empower our diaspora, linking Turkish talent abroad with opportunities at home and reinforcing the unity that defines our global community.
When Turkish professionals are given platforms to showcase their expertise and share their values, they consistently make a remarkable impact, demonstrating not only skill and professionalism but also authenticity, resilience, and heart.
That is the true power of a diaspora: it gives us the stage, the voice, and the collective strength to make our mark, together.
